MUSLIM COMMUNITY AFTERNOON TEA
We’d like to bring together our Muslim families so you all know who each other are. Please come to the staffroom at 2.15pm on Thursday 18th March to meet other families of the school. END OF TERM KORERO Bookings are now open for parents and carers to meet with teachers on the 30th or the 31st March for a 10 minute catch up on the term. These take place from 3.30pm on both afternoons. Please click here to make a booking. The code is: xtwdt Please contact the school office if you need any help making a booking. SCHOOL POOL The swimming pool will close this Friday at 3pm. Key holders are asked to return their key to the school next week. A chain and padlock will be secured on the gate as the pool equipment will be turned off. PARKING PROBLEMS I ask that parents consider pedestrians when they consider where to drop off or pick up from. Pulling into driveways that then blocks the footpath is a problem for pedestrians. You should not be pulling into the church car park on Newcastle Street. Cars should not pull onto the footpath at the Newcastle Street gate. Your cooperation would be appreciated. COVID19 ALERT LEVEL 1 Keep scanning the QR code by your child’s class when you come into school. SCHOOL ASSEMBLY Our next assembly will be on Friday 19th March at 2.30pm in the school hall. All welcome. Nau mai haere mai. CONNECT WITH NATURE For anyone interested in the natural world, you can join the inaturalist organisation and add to the scientific world’s understanding of the natural world by sharing your observations. Programmes are finishing this week. We have had a number of events for students to show their swimming skills and their progress over the last 6 weeks. It has been great to have parents and carers there cheering swimmers on as well, thank you. Tomorrow is the last day for classes to use the pool. Nāku noa, nā

PĀNUI FROM NIC
Rimu Team Swimming Sports
Well done to the Rimu team for their organisation of their swimming sports. We braved the cold and managed to display a range of swimming and aquatics skills for our whānau. Thanks for coming down and being a part of this.

Privacy Permissions.
Thanks team to everyone who has helped us get these in. I have been experimenting with the SkoolLoop App so that we can get permissions from you without paper. Once you open the app you should see in the middle a purple permission icon. Follow the prompts there. You only need to do this if you haven't sent in the paper copy. I will be following up with people who we have't heard from over the next week.
Butterfly update
Room 12 have informed me that their caterpillar successfully metamorphosed into a butterfly!

Digital Technologies
Sophie and I have been creating a bit of space to help us upskill in the Digital Technologies curriculum. Two digital technologies strands were added to the Technology Curriculum in 2018 with the intention of schools applying them into their learning programs by 2020. Winchester School spent 2019 exploring the first strand: Computational Thinking.
Within Computational Thinking (CT) - students learn:
I hear there was a very successful whānau evening in 2019 where our students were demonstrating how these worked in action!
In 2020 we were supposed to continue looking at the other strand in the digital technologies curriculum but there was a bit of an interruption... therefore we are charging ahead this year!
The teachers are now exploring Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes (DDDO, 3DO).
Designing and Developing Digital Outcomes (DDDO, 3DO) is about:
The Digital Technologies curriculum is but one of seven curriculum areas and is not going to take over all the other areas. But there are some innovative, creative, critical and ethical thinking involved. I think it connects to all of our 4 Cs: being a self-manager and life long learner; enterprising and entrepreneurial; contributing to my school and community and being fluent in digital literacy (ICT savvy).
Here's a video of the staff having fun with a Red Ball challenge using google slides!

- problem solving
- the computer science (CS) principles that underlie all digital technologies e.g. binary codes
- how to develop instructions to control these technologies
- to create rather than just use computer technology
- algorithmic (logical) and systems thinking (input - output)

- developing knowledge and skills in using different digital technologies

- learning about the electronic components and techniques used to design digital devices
- understanding that digital systems and applications are created for humans by humans
