Parent Education Session - Reading and Writing
Term 1  2021 - in the Library
Maree Woods and Viv Storrier are running a session on reading and writing for parents of junior children (Year 0,1,2), or any other interested parents.
We particularly encourage parents of New Entrants to attend.
The session will focus on how children learn to read and write, and how they are taught this at school. We will give you ideas on how you can help your child at home, and also show the close link between reading and writing. There will be ample opportunity for questions so bring them along.
We have two times that you could attend.
Tuesday 23 March
  • 2.00 - 2.50pm
  • 5.30 - 6.30pm
We hope to see you there!

PĀNUI FROM NIC

Kia Ora e te whānau,

We've been immersed with a gnarly problem. I like to call problems gnarly when we don't know the answer or solution straight away. I wonder if you can guess what our gnarly problem is this week? Pika pika... CHOOOOOOOO!

That's right, Pokemon trading cards have taken Winchester School by storm! We got together on Wednesday to listen to some of the issues.  The staff and students here have tried our best to solve conflicts that have arisen from a trade or card scramble gone bad. The conflicts are beginning to disrupt the flow of teaching and learning. I bet it's hard to concentrate on learning if you've just lost your favourite card! So unfortunately, we are going to have to pause all Pokemon trading here at Winchester until further notice. Please support us in encouraging our learners not to bring toys or trading cards to school.

Hui Whānau:

Our first Hui Whānau is set for the 24th of March at 5:15pm. Please let us know if you are coming by entering your details
here. Thanks.

At the beginning of the year the Winchester Staff came together and shared up to 5 special things that are important to us. Our very talented teacher aide, Ji-Young created a beautiful garden of our taonga! Thank you Ji-Young!!

HI FROM TIM AND HAROLD @LIFE ED MANAWATU!

We are so excited to be back at Winchester School to see all our friends again! Being among all your positivity and energy is one of the highlights of our year, and we feel really privileged to be sharing in the students learning around what our bodies need to stay Healthy and Happy with Kowhai, what we need to know about the food we eat & how our digestive system works with Rimu, and what it takes to be an awesome team member with Kauri. We would love to hear of the learning that is being shared at home, so please let us know whenever you can!
Take care everyone and have a fantastic rest of the day!

Love from Tim and Harold!

Kia ora koutou,
My name is Deena Parr and this year I am lucky enough to be the classroom teacher in the wonderful Room 10. Over the summer holidays I relocated to Palmerston North from Hamilton. I am excited to be a part of the Winchester community and to make the Manawatū home. This year is my second year as a teacher, previously I taught in a country school on the outskirts of Hamilton. Aside from school, I am a hobbyist baker; I love creating all sorts of things in the kitchen, including custom cakes. I also enjoy sitting down with a good coffee and a book, and catching up with my family and friends, and going for walks to explore our beautiful country.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your whānau more throughout the coming year.

Ngā mihi,

Deena
Tēnā koutou kātoa,
Ko Tararua te maunga
Ko Ruamahanga te awa
Nō Whakaoriori ahau
Ko Kate Marshall toku ingoa

I have moved to Winchester School from Whakarongo School this year and am excited to have joined such an amazing school and community culture. I live locally with my husband Cam and two children Amelia and Cooper. We are busy building our dream home and managing two young children! But in our spare time (when we have it), we love to get outdoors and get active as a family, running, bike riding or exploring.
I am lucky enough to teach in Rūma Whitu (Room 7) in the Kowhai-iti team with some pretty amazing 5 and 6 year olds, as well as with Mrs Storrier and Whaea Marie.
I am excited to be a part of the Winchester School whānau and have been made to feel very welcome by staff, students and community already!

Kia ora tātou

I am Abby, probably known to most of you as ‘Rubys mum’

Matt and I enjoy raising our two daughters (and the family dog, Bodhi) in Palmerston North around our extended whānau. When we are not swamped under with Matts business, Autokraft Electrical & Deisel (shameless advertising), we enjoy the great outdoors for bush walks and mountain biking, and getting away for long weekends to Lake Rotoiti.

I hold the finance portfolio on the Board of Trustees which reflects my usual day job in accounting. I am currently on maternity leave and have swapped out crunching numbers for some new hobbies - dance classes, swimming and designing our new house build (in between housework & catching up on sleep of course!)

It’s a pleasure to represent you on the BOT, and to be a part of the Winchester Community.
Kia pai te rā!

Abby
