We hope this newsletter finds you all well and enjoying the current season? Our school has been buzzing with activity, and we're thrilled to share the latest updates with you!
PUANGA / MATARIKI
Did you know that the star of Puanga is celebrated here in Palmy? The PNCC and Rangitāne have created this short animation on what Puanga is and what it means during this time.
This year, the theme is 'Matariki Heri Kai' which is the feast of Matariki - this is all about the food / kai we share and where the kai comes from. This week, we are acknowledging different parts of Matariki Heri Kai throughout the week. We look forward to celebrate with you all today. You can read more about this whakataukī / proverb here: https://www.matariki.com/about

RANGITĀNE SYMPOSIUM / VIRTUAL TOUR / MANAWATU DIGIFEST
Our recent Rangitāne Purākau Symposium was a truly enriching experience for all involved. We were honoured to have esteemed kaumatua and storytellers share their knowledge and stories with us. There was also a Virtual Tour launch that we attended and I recommend having a look at during the up and coming school holidays. Peter Te Rangi is a particularly knowledgeable and gifted speaker within that resource.
TOI WARBRICK CREATIVES IN SCHOOLS
25 Artists and Writers of the Kauri Team have been very lucky to be working with Warren and Virgina Warbrick. Ākonga who have been working within a creative process under the "Creatives in Schools" umbrella are putting together their Creatives project in the style of a graphic novel that will be presented at the Manawatū DigiFest 2024 on Thursday 5th July at Te Manawa. There will also be 6 more creations from the Kauri Team entered into the DigiFest. Ka rawe koutou!
TE OPE KURA AT TE PAE TAMARIKI
Our amazing Kapa Haka group, Te Ope Kura, wowed the audience with their performance at Te Pae Tamariki. Their passion, energy, and dedication to Māori performing arts are truly inspiring. I want to thank the team: Pa Sio, Whaea Aliza, Whaea Paula, Paige and Matthew for your organisation and leadership in this space. I was so proud of your performance! Relive the magic: [Link to the full performance video on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/100057511403788/videos/476806074761572]
KI-O-RAHI TOURNAMENT
Our two Year 5/6 Ki o Rahi teams competed at the Manawatu Ki o Rahi competition at Manawaroa Park yesterday against a huge field of 30 teams. The weather held out and the mud proofed an asset for sliding in to score a try! Both teams played with high skill level, team work and sportsmanship. A big thanks goes to Pa Sio for all of the hard mahi that went into preparing these teams.

RIGHT CHOICE RECOGNITION DAY
We had an incredible time competing in a fun Buddy Class day challenge called the Colour War. It was based on a Summer Camp America game that one of the teachers had played. The aim of the day is to have fun and friendly competition between a Blue team (The Blues) and a Red team (The Chiefs). All activities took place with buddy classes. There were 7 stations of activities and all students completed in each one throughout the day to collect points for their colour team. The points didn't matter but the fun memories we created did!
