Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
I visited schools in Taranaki last week as part of a beginning principal's network tour. It's always good to see other schools in action to get inspiration. It was also affirming to know that we are doing many amazing things that supports ākonga/learners. Fantastic effort to our team of kaiako/teachers, kaiawhina/learning coaches, whānau/parents and ākonga/learners.
DISCO
Thank you to our PTA for organising the school disco last week. It was an unforgettable night! Hopefully you have seen the cool photos and videos on the PTA Facebook page - the whole place looked amazing and I was really impressed with the outfits and dances from everyone.
DONATION FROM CLOUD9
I wanted to acknowledge and thank Nick and the team from Cloud 9 - they have a donation scheme for schools and this year they are donating $647.41 to the school. I think this would be a great head start to our sand pit upgrade. Thanks Cloud 9.
ELECTIONS
Our school hall is going to be used as a Voting Place on Election Day 14 Oct 2023. Voting will open at 9:00am and close at 7:00pm.
KAPA HAKA MINI FEST
Te Ope Kura spent the morning with Kapa Haka from PNINS, College Street, Riverdale and Hokowhitu this morning at the Kapa Haka Mini Festival. After our mihi whakatau/welcome, each school taught the other schools a song and performed it together. Then each school performed up to 4 waiata. It was an amazing morning and a great opportunity to make connections with previous students from Winchester School. Thank you to our whānau who came to support us today. Whaea Paula and Whaea Aliza, thank you for your organisation.

Ngā Uara - Values
The final uara under focus is Kotahitanga, working together. Our whakatauki connected to this uara is probably quite familiar -
He waka eke noa, which translates to ‘We are all in this together’.
In helping our ākonga understand this value we talk about working together, each person taking responsibility to do their part, as best they can, to achieve a common goal. Our recent success at the Mathex competition is an excellent example of Kotahitanga.
We would like to thank you, our Whānau, for embracing our uara in your actions in and around our kura. From Mauitanga - dancing at the PTA Disco, Whanaungatanga - taking the time to tell us about your child, to Manaakitanga - as you help out in our classrooms or on the Sports field, to name just a few. As the whakatauki states - we’re all in this together.
Kotahitanga in Action
Take a look at our ākonga (learners) working together towards a common goal in the sandpit.
