Kia Ora koutou, how is it November already? A warm welcome to all of our new families who have joined us this term.
2022-2024 STRATEGIC PLANNING REVIEW
In 2021, the Winchester Te Kura o te Haonui Board adopted the current strategic plan that we are currently working towards. It was meant to be a 3 year plan but the Government changed the timeline so that it aligns with when new boards are elected, which is why we are working through community engagement now to help us inform our next strategic direction.
The great news is, our Kahikatea Leadership team have reviewed our annual goals in October, and we have met many of our targets since then:
Strategic Goal 1: AOTEAROATANGA Ākonga will experience a curriculum that promotes tikanga Māori/ te reo Māori/Mātauranga Māori and has high aspirations for every learner/ākonga.
There will always be areas to strengthen and we are excited to weave these into our next strategic plan.
RONGOHIA TE HAU COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Thank you to all of our community for sharing your voice this year through all of our community engagement events. We have heard that relationships between teacher and student, home and school continue to be a strength of Winchester School Te Kura o Te Haonui. Our school values healthy relationships and building strong bonds with each other to form a sense of belonging and connectedness - this is the essence of our value Whanaungatanga.
In areas for us to work on, we are able to include these into our strategic planning and I am excited to see these shape up. We now have completed the next draft review to form the following four statements that will be our over arching goals over the next two years:
Once again, we would like your feedback on these, please email principal@winchester.school.nz

Thank you to all of our whānau helpers who supported us down at the Bunnings BBQ last weekend. It was a glorious day and as a result we had many people out and about and we sold over 600 sausages! Thank you all for also supporting us down at the Loteria Night at Libre last night. What a hilarious night!? All proceeds are going towards our Sandpit upgrade!

- Embed Ngā Uara through Learning to Learn
- Implement culturally responsive practices (Whakawhanaungatanga, Kotahitanga, Whakapapa, Ako, Wananga, Kaupapa) to support learners/ākonga.
- Increase our engagement with, and participation in, the local community.
- Keep parents and caregivers well informed about their child’s progress & strengths, and of our teaching and learning processes.
- Regularly meet with Māori and Pasifika families to meet learner/ākonga needs.
- Implement strategies that support learner/ākonga Hauora/Well Being.
- All learners/ākonga receive appropriate levels of support to maximise learning.
- Provide a learning environment that caters to all learners' needs.

CYCLE SAFETY PROGRAMME AND CONFIDENCE
Kauri team are learning to ride their bikes safely through the Cycle Safety Programme. It's a wonderful skill for everyone to experience and very important in order to ensure our kids are safe when getting around Palmerston North (and maybe even beyond!). We have had multiple success stories of learners going beyond their perceived level of ability to stretch themselves - to grow. This develops a positive self-esteem, this develops confidence - taiohi māia.
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR A SUMMER POOL KEY
The Winchester Te Kura o Te Haonui Board have decided to increase the price of the keys this year to $85 plus a bond of $15 per key that gets refunded when the key is returned at the end of the pool season. 60 keys will be made available for purchase on a ballot. Please use the link below to send us your expression of interest.
