Thursday 16th February 2023 - Week 3 - Term 1

Kia Ora e te whānau,
Welcome to our Pānui for Week 3. Our start to the year has been very positive. Well done to us all for settling quickly into the school routine. Our Kōrero Mai chats were of huge benefit for us, thank you for making the time. Teachers highlighted the following aspects about our Kōrero Mai chats:
We'd love to know how you experienced them. Here is a short survey to check if we are on the right track with our Kōrero Mai Chats and also a chance to let us know if there are some other creative ideas for us to consider.
To all of our friends, family and loved ones who are affected by Cyclone Gabrielle - our thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. As I am writing this, I reflect on how relatively unscathed we have been here in the Manawatū and I feel very grateful. We wish you strength and courage as you begin the long road to rebuild and recover from the impact of the cyclone.
NGA UARA FOCUS: TE TUAKIRITANGA
Throughout the year we will be giving focused attention to the development of our understanding of our Ngā Uara, Values, that were introduced in 2022.
The language of our uara, values, will be seen in our Newsletters, Facebook page, Seesaw, and school certificates.
Beginning in the next newsletter there will be a section on one uara, value, at a time to support at home learning.
Our first focus uara is, Te Tuakiritanga - Identity.
Identity is really important for us here at Winchester School because we believe feeling safe, having a sense of belonging and being confident in who we are, will facilitate learning and academic achievement. Te Tuakiritanga connects with our dual name, Te Haonui (The Great Catch) as it is a metaphor for a great fishing net pulling in all of our diverse and unique personalities, strengths, and abilities.
PRINCIPAL AWARDS
Congratulations to our ākonga who received an award last week. We are very proud of your achievements - keep up the high standards of learning and attitude.

- Great to make connections with whānau at the start of the year
- Really nice to get to know whānau and be on the same page with goals etc..
- I learnt heaps about children that I didn’t know, can now connect them with others who have shared interests.
- Great way to find out about shared family interests e.g sport, Star Wars
We'd love to know how you experienced them. Here is a short survey to check if we are on the right track with our Kōrero Mai Chats and also a chance to let us know if there are some other creative ideas for us to consider.

All welcome - nau mai haere mai.
DOGS AND THE SCHOOL POOL
Please leave your 4-legged friend outside of the pool enclosure when using the school pool outside of school hours. Thanks.

SPOTLIGHT STUDENT LEARNING
HI FROM TIM AND HAROLD @LIFE ED MANAWATU!
We are simply LOVING being at Winchester School! There have been so many brilliant discussions both in and out of the mobile classroom around how we are all special & unique, looking after our amazing body systems, and how our feelings influence the way we act.
It has been so uplifting to see the excitement, engagement, smiles and keenness to learn from EVERYONE - so many super ideas for us to take away - what a spectacular group of people we have at this school!!
Take care everyone and have a stunning rest of the day!

PTA MEETING
Our first meeting of the year is next Wednesday 22nd February 7pm in the school staffroom. All welcome! If you have been thinking of coming along, please do! A big thank you to Team Robinson Bayleys Manawatu - Jess & Ian Robinson who have kindly offered to continue sponsoring our ice blocks for Term 1 2023! We are so grateful for your support.
