Dàjiā hǎo
In this special Chinese Language Week, let us extend our warmest Kia Ora / Nǐ hǎo to our outstanding Chinese families with joy and gratitude! 感谢你们,我们的华人家庭。因为有你们,我们的社区更加美好!祝大家中文周快乐!Happy Chinese Language Week to everyone!
Ka nui te mihi to our whānau! Thanks a million for backing our totally rad up and coming 80s Quiz Night. Your support, and the generosity of our local businesses, means this is gonna be one epic blast from the past! Every dollar raised goes straight to giving our outdoor equipment a much-needed makeover. Kia Ora.
We wanted to inform you of some key decisions for 2025 and the purpose of these decisions.
OUR PEOPLE
- Linda Hughes has agreed to continue in her Specialist teacher position in 2025 with working in room 16 with our ORS team. We are thrilled to continue building on the already fantastic and important work she has done.
- It is both sad and exciting news for one of our teachers, Deena - she has handed in her resignation and is pursuing further study in 2025.
- The Board of Trustees has approved 12 months refreshment leave for Wendy Snowsill.
- Jolanda Hanly has won an exciting opportunity to continue her leadership journey in science! She was appointed as an Across School Leader (ASL) for our Kāhui Ako, which means she will be working for 2 days a week in this capacity in 2025.
- Jolanda, Wendy and Deena will be helping us out with Release in 2025.
- FYI, The Primary Schools Collective agreement moves into the final stage of providing release for teachers by allocating 25 hours of teacher classroom release in 2025 therefore this will help us to fulfil the requirement.
- You will see that there are 2 positions available at Winchester School. This an exciting opportunity to attract and recruit the best warm and demanding educators to join our whānau. At the same time with the help of Jolanda, Deena and Wendy continuing to maintain relationships with our ākonga because we believe that relationships are at the heart of learning.
PLACES: 2025 CLASS STRUCTURE
The Kahikatea Leadership team has taken a deep dive into our current situation, analysing a range of data to chart our future course. We've looked at the refreshed curriculum, enrolment numbers per year level, behaviour patterns, achievement data, and the diverse learning needs across our school. We've challenged ourselves to ask: How can we best structure our team to truly meet the needs of every learner in our care?
Therefore, we are looking at the following structure for 2025:
Kauri Team:
After we have appointed new teachers to the team we will share where teachers and classes are placed for 2025.
PROPERTY
The school is set to be a hive of activity during the up and coming non-contact time. The perimeter fences are all being taken down and replaced. See our Rawa/Property page on the website for more details. If you are using the school grounds, please be aware of the areas that are cordoned off.
Inside the school, there will be heat pumps in all classrooms and a number in the hall. I'm looking forward to summer assemblies being a little cooler.
PRODUCTION
The work being completed in the background for our production is zooming along. The production team are doing a fantastic job at pulling it all together, adding little details of awesome and rehearsals so that we are feel polished and confident on the night. We can't wait to share our product and message with you! https://premier.ticketek.co.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=KAITIAKI24 Courtesy of Amanda Stone Productions.
SEESAW FEEDBACK
Keep your feedback coming in about your experience and perspective with Seesaw - this will help us to design learning in 2025 and beyond.
CONGRATULATIONS
Owen Su from Room 2 competed in the Manawatu School Pupils, Chess competition this week and won 3rd place in the Under 10 competition - such an amazing effort Owen!

CUP FILLERS
From the Book Buds:
"We loved delivering the programme to Winchester School again. Many of the library staff involved have commented on the great positive vibe and support your school community has shown us and that this was also noticed in terms of tamariki supporting peer participation across and within each class. It is quite something to come in and experience that and is so awesome for extending a reading culture.
Thanks for having us!
Please thank the classes for the wonderful thank you letters and creative gifts. We appreciated hearing how each child connected with the programme and is so valuable in shaping the programme.
Have a great end to the term and enjoy the holiday period."
From our recent Hui Whānau
"On family holiday during the summer holidays the children saw the word "Creativity" in a city they were visiting and they said: "I know what that word means, it means Māuitanga!" We see, hear and feel that our Uara are embedded right across the school."
From a leadership Coach:
"Your team seems positive & optimistic & able to identify progress made & next steps ahead... It sounds like there has been a lot achieved so far this year. Clear forward momentum from everyone. Team leaders thinking about starting strong in 2025 & curriculum leads thinking about next year as well as navigating through term 4...Thanks for the opportunity to work with your team!!!"
