Thursday 12 October 2023 - Week 1 - Term 4
Tēnā tātou e te whānau, a warm welcome back to Term 4, despite the rather chilly and windy weather in the school break. I hope that you were able to enjoy some time together. It has been so good to see you back this week! Term 4 is jam packed with learning, opportunities and experiences. Lucky we have daylight savings beginning and we can enjoy some longer, productive afternoons.
TEACHER ONLY DAY
There was communication at the start of the year that we were going to have a Teacher Only Day in October however, this date has now been changed and confirmed with the MOE (as they are leading it) for Wednesday 22 November. Please put this date into your calendars as school will be closed on this date.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, CONSULTATION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
During Term 3, we engaged with you over a series of events and asked for your voice to help us inform our Strategic Plan for 2024 and 2025. We had the Open Afternoon, Pasifika Fono, Hui Whānau, Crewe Crescent BBQ and the Community Survey.
Firstly, thank you for all of the wonderful feedback for Winchester School and the staff. We are thrilled to hear that so many things are working well for you and your child/ren.
There are 2 main next steps emerging that will shape the first 2 strategic goals:
Have we got this right? Please let us know via email on principal@winchester.school.nz if you feel we are missing something from these statements.

There are 2 main next steps emerging that will shape the first 2 strategic goals:
- We have heard that your aspirations for your children are to be happy and confident and to have a good foundation of learning. In essence, to prepare children for becoming well-rounded individuals who can effectively navigate academic, social and emotional challenges.
- We have also heard that respect, inclusivity, diversity and challenge are important to focus on to achieve equity and excellence. In other words, differentiating learning that inspires and challenges each ākonga, to reach their potential.
Have we got this right? Please let us know via email on principal@winchester.school.nz if you feel we are missing something from these statements.
RONGOHIA TE HAU WHĀNAU SURVEY TERM 4, 2023
Kia ora e te whānau,
This survey will help us to assess the impact on our professional learning for 2023 and inform our next steps for 2024 and beyond. We ask questions about our relationships with you and kura and also how you feel your child is learning at school. The survey should take about 5-10mins and there is a space at the end for any comments you wish to share with us.
A big mihi to those of you who have filled out our whānau survey. Just a reminder, you have until Friday the 20th of October to fill out the survey.

SANDPIT UPGRADE UPDATE
We have been talking with designers for the sandpit upgrade with the ākonga/learners in Room 3. Below are two ideas that we have come up with so far. We are now looking for someone from our amazing community to help us to bring our vision together:
Once we have a rough estimate of how much money we need to cover the costs of this project, then we can work with the PTA to fundraise for it. Please email me on principal@winchester.school.nz if you are able to help in anyway with the above tasks.

SANDPIT UPGRADE UPDATE
We have been talking with designers for the sandpit upgrade with the ākonga/learners in Room 3. Below are two ideas that we have come up with so far. We are now looking for someone from our amazing community to help us to bring our vision together:
- level the ground
- remove the tree stump
- remove current posts
- source the building resources
- cost the resources
- build the sandpit and sun roof
Once we have a rough estimate of how much money we need to cover the costs of this project, then we can work with the PTA to fundraise for it. Please email me on principal@winchester.school.nz if you are able to help in anyway with the above tasks.
STAFF UPDATES
At the end of Term 3, we said goodbye (for a little while ) to Sasha and Millie who are due to have their babies at any moment. We wish them all the best and can't wait for a little visit soon.
Amanda in Room 7 has been away on ACC and Michelle has been operating in her absence for Terms 2 & 3. Amanda has been able to return to work for this term with assistance from the ACC transition to work plan - she will be in Room 7, 4 days a week and Michelle will support Room 7 on a Wednesday.
Jolanda Hanly has accepted a special project within Winchester School, as CRT Teacher / Science Lead, which means she will be giving up running a classroom for 2 years to support the teachers in Professional Development in Science and also covering CRT release across the school. Jolanda is a passionate science educator and we are very lucky to have her expertise in our space. This will give an opportunity to offer a 2 year fixed term contract to someone, which we are in the middle of organising now so an update will be announced in the next newsletter.
2024 ENROLMENT
OUT OF ZONE - We are accepting Out of Zone Enrolments for children turning 5 in Term 2 (between 15th April and 24th June 2024). We will be having a ballot for this on Friday 10th November 2024. Please visit www.winchester.school.nz/new-enrolments.html to download an application.
